The Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) invites you to a press conference on Friday 29 June at 10:30 am at the International Press Centre – Residence Palace Brussels (Room Salon).
This event is organised on the occasion of the International Conference “Access to health care for undocumented migrants in Europe” that will take place in Brussels on 28 and 29 June 2007. Members of the press are also welcomed to attend the main conference (programme attached).
As an organisation committed to defend the most basic human rights of undocumented migrants, PICUM would like to denounce the violations that are currently taking place in the EU of undocumented migrants’ right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; a right recognised by international human rights law that should be enjoyed by all without discrimination on any grounds including administrative status.
Access to health care is an urgent priority for undocumented migrants, one of the most excluded populations in Europe today, given the consequences that insufficient access to medical assistance has upon both ill undocumented migrants and public health in general.
Speakers:
Don Flynn - Chair of PICUM;
Jean Lambert - Green Member of the European Parliament for London;
Mónica - undocumented migrant residing in Belgium; and
Joost den Otter - Medical doctor, BAVO EUROPORT (Netherlands).
