International conference:
accountability for human rights violations
Brussels 16-17 March 2007
This international conference is designed to explore the manners, mechanisms
and fora in which accountability can be realized for violations of human rights
committed by, or attributable to, international organizations and their staff.
It wants to explore how international organizations may threaten human rights,
how accountability is attributed for this, and how such accountability may be
improved.
Apart from a general cross-cutting part, it focuses on four themes:
1. human rights accountability in peacekeeping operations;
2. human rights accountability of international civil administrations;
3. economic governance and human rights accountability of international organizations;
4. Human rights accountability of international organisations vis-à-vis
their staff.
This conference marks the launch of Human Rights and International Legal Discourse.
