Free Amjad Baiazy
31 mei 2011
Amjad Baiazy, a Syrian citizen and 29 years of age, was arrested at Damascus International Airport on the morning of May 12, 2011 as he was returning to the UK. Amjad is a young Syrian civil activist who has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières and has spent many years participating in exchanges to build bridges of understanding between youth in Syria, the Middle East, and Europe.
Undersigned deplore the arbitrary arrest of Amjad Baiazy and demand his immediate release. We urge Syria to comply with international conventions to which it is a signatory. This includes the International Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, as well as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which states that "Everyone has the right to liberty and security of person. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention. No one shall be deprived of his liberty except on such grounds and in accordance with such procedure as are established by law" (Article 9.1).
